Get your grouper sandwich fix now, while you still can. October 29 is coming up fast, and, sadly, it’s the last week the Seagrove Village Market Café will be open at its current location. The historic Market and bona fide SoWal icon is being torn down to make way for new development.

The Seaside Post Office has a lot of fans. Other than the beach, It may be the most photographed spot in SoWal. A large crowd of admirers joined Seaside Founders Robert and Daryl Davis at a dedication ceremony to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Seaside Post Office on Friday, Oct. 23, at 10 a.m. in front of the Seaside Post Office on Scenic 30A in the heart of South Walton, Florida.

It’s shoulder season in SoWal and our friends at Local Catch are showing some serious love to the SoWal community that helped get the word out about their wonderful restaurant. Now in their fourth year of business, owners Jimmy Hasser and Adam Yellin are dedicating the menu this fall to the local crowd.

Gentle waves lapping at our white sand shores shape the coastline bringing a subtle change, maybe not observed by all, but a change that is constant. Another transformation, a conceptual change occurring on the Emerald Coast as well as all over the world, is the redefining of luxury.

The Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance (CBA) of Northwest Florida State College announces the fall session of its award winning eco-tourism initiative, Discover Roads Less Traveled: Eco-Adventures of Walton County.

“CBA’s eco-tours are intended to bring participants to local, off the beaten path environmental wonders,” states CBA’s eco-tour coordinator, Brandy Foley. “We hope that these tours will entice individuals to experience our local environment from a different perspective.” 

When Amy Walsh gave birth to her first child, she knew her mother was dying from bone cancer. Even so, her parents jumped on a flight from Michigan to Santa Rosa Beach to meet their grandson. Although Amy was recovering from a cesarean, she explained, “I cooked her dinner, rubbed her feet and made her sit in the sun.”

The founder of Fore Her is no stranger to public service, or cancer for that matter. Amy’s sister was a toddler when she was diagnosed with leukemia, a disease which, thankfully, was successfully treated.

Thanks to the hard work of a dedicated group of locals, South Walton has added an entire layer of recreation through artificial reef environments. The South Walton Artificial Reef Association (SWARA) has installed the first set of near shore reefs off our beaches.
