The inaugural South Walton Adventure Run was an adventure-filled weekend for adults and kids. The event, sponsored by SoWal.com, challenged runners from every ability at beautiful Topsail Hill Preserve State Park.
The fun masquerade ball was Friday night. Saturday’s 1 mile kid run was a scaled down version of the 5k, with obstacles and pirates – so runners had to guard their booty in order to win prizes! There were different age brackets for this event.

South Walton was once home to a large black bear population. Hunting and development nearly eliminated Florida's largest land mammal. But lately we've seen bears return to the area in large numbers.
Just like it is for SoWal vistors and locals, Fall is an active time of year for Florida black bears as they stock up on calories for the coming winter. Though black bears don’t really need to put on pounds to survive the state’s usually mild winters, they behave as if they do need to – eating about three times as much as usual.
The Souh Walton Tourist Development Council (TDC) has named MC and Stella Davis as its 2012 Van Ness Butler Hospitality Award recipients. The semi-annual Seaside Community Yard Sale is a blast. Everyone loves a bargain and the excitement is off the charts. Some vendors arrive at 3:30 AM to set up and the first shoppers arrive earlier than the early bird to get the worm. You never know what you might find, from a funky piece of local art, to a bolt of fabulous fabric, to a cranky old fishing reel.
