“Top of the Class” Art Exhibition and Reception April 5

Celebrating its third year, the Cultural Arts Alliance (CAA) "Top of the Class" exhibition will be on display at Northwest Florida State College-South Walton Campus, from April 5 to May 30. The art exhibition features 35 new, original works by local artists. To launch the exhibit and announce the cash awards, the CAA is hosting an opening reception on Friday April 5 from 5pm - 7pm at the South Walton Campus of Northwest Florida State College.

Donna Burgess Gallery Easter for Alaqua Animal Refuge Fundraiser March 30

The Art of the Egg fundraiser for Alaqua Animal Refuge will be held on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at Donna Burgess Gallery in Grand Boulevard. Local artists will transform eggs, laid by Alaqua's resident Emu sisters, Zsa Zsa and Eva, into works of art. The egg creations will be available for purchase through a silent auction along with original paintings.

But unfortunately, with reduced state budgets and cuts in county music program spending, funds for new band instrument purchases in most local schools are a challenge. This has prompted more pressure on parents to foot the bill in purchasing or renting a musical instrument for their child to participate in band.

Destin Charity Wine Auction Ranks Among Top Ten by Wine Spectator Magazine

Destin Charity Wine Auction Foundation (DCWAF) today announced that its 2012 Charity Wine Auction was recently recognized as one of the nation’s top ten highest-grossing charity auctions by Wine Spectator Magazine. Founded in 2005, DCWAF has since donated $4.7 million to support a variety of children’s charities in Northwest Florida. In 2012, DCWAF donated $1.2 million ($895,000 from live auction bids), representing a 300-percent increase in giving capacity, since its inception.

Rediscover Your Inner Artist at Seaside Institute Academic Village

Seaside Institute will host a new series of programs this spring, “Rediscovering Your Inner Artist”, with four five-day workshops in the new Academic Village on Smolian Circle in Seaside, Florida. For two weeks in May and two weeks in June, the programs will be devoted to courses on photography, design, plein air painting and drawing. Each course will run from 9:00am to 12:00pm, Monday through Friday, although other optional work time may be scheduled.

4th Annual Little Black Dress Party Benefiting Local Charities May 18

The newly formed White-Wilson Community Foundation sets the stage for the 4th Annual Little Black Dress Party to be held on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at the Emerald Coast Convention Center located at 1250 Miracle Strip Parkway S.E. in Ft. Walton Beach.

The annual Little Black Dress Party was formed in 2010 to raise money for local charities to help raise awareness and education of the importance of preventive health and early detection.

South Walton Artist Justin Lyons Creates ArtsQuest Festival Poster

The Cultural Arts Alliance of Walton County (CAA) unveils the 25th Annual ArtsQuest Arts & Music Festival poster image, designed by South Walton artist Justin Lyons. Lyons was voted "Best in Mixed Media" at the 2012 ArtsQuest Festival and has created a poster image that complements the festival's fun-loving atmosphere and quest for art with a quest for heart.  The annual event will be held over Mother's Day Weekend, May 10-12, and features activities for the entire family.
