On the SoWal Forum, we've compiled a list of great New Year's Eve Dining and Events.
A New Year's Eve celebration in a spectacular setting is what makes Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort the top spot for New Year's Eve every year. Celebrate the New Year in style and enjoy being an elevator ride away from home.
The Godfather has long been Chef Ed’s ultimate favorite movie (followed closely by Godfather II and III). Not long after we met, I sat and really watched the movie. I immediately saw why he loved it so and became a fan myself. The movie is so rich in wine and food scenes and references, that we, obsessed with food and wine as we are, can’t go a week without quoting or referring to the Godfather.
Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort is starting this holiday season with a special sparkling event. The Village of Baytowne Wharf will be lit with holiday décor and cheer for “Sparkling Wines and Holiday Lights” presented by the Sandestin Wine Festival, on Saturday, Nov. 17 from 4-7 p.m.
The lounge at Restaurant Paradis in Rosemary Beach is a place to see and be seen. Many regulars frequent the sophisticated, yet casual atmosphere for upscale libations and delicious culinary creations. Take a seat at the bar or in one of the over-sized lounge chairs, and your good time is guaranteed.
BEER! It's not just for breakfast anymore!
The gang at Sandestin has a great track record of starting all kinds of fun festivals. Usually they start small and grow over the years. That is exactly what has happened with the annual Baytowne Beer Festival. It started small but has grown quicker than most, not suprising given the average American's love affair with the sudsy beverage.
I have found my new favorite cocktail. Okay, maybe I found more than one. My recent visit to Fish Out of Water was truly an eye-opening and tasty experience.
As I walked up the stairs I felt like I had stepped into a sophisticated, uber-metropolitan venue. I found a seat and was greeted by beverage manager John Ryckert. He suggested the Something Good and Strawberry Lemonade - both from the signature cocktail list. Each turned out to be delicious and refreshing.
It's been one of the busiest summers in South Walton history. The cars full of visitors have come in waves just like the surf in the gulf, but there's no lull in the visitor waves until school starts back in Atlanta, Birmingham, New Orleans Houston...
Meawhile the crowds clamor for the food and fun times at the Red Bar in Grayton Beach. Can you call it a hidden gem? Almost anyone who has heard of SoWal has heard of the Red Bar. But if you get a puzzled look from someone when you mention Grayton Beach in Chicago then you better believe the Red Bar is a hidden gem to them.
Shannon Davis at Great Southern is one of my favorite bartenders on Scenic 30a. I’ve never seen her without a smile and a great story to tell.
One of the great cocktails that Shannon serves up is her signature drink, the S.O.S. It’s made with Stoli Limon Vodka, Peach Schnapps, freshly squeezed orange and a splash of Red Bull. It is so refreshing on a hot day!
Speaking of peach, it seems to be on trend with Shannon and the other bartenders at Great Southern. You have the Peach Bellini (with whipped cream) and the Peach Mojito just to name a couple.
