Panoramic Gulf Views Mesmerize at FOOW in WaterColor

October 10, 2019 by Audrey Johnson

Panoramic Gulf views mesmerize from every seat in the house at FOOW, WaterColor’s favorite casual dining spot.

If you can tear your gaze away from the view, textural artwork by Justin Gaffrey and an open Chef’s kitchen are a feast for the senses. The menu itself is a sensory experience, ever changing, ever creative, ever delicious.

With people watching at its prime - not to mention sunlight sparkling on the water – lunch is one of our favorite times of the day to enjoy a meal at FOOW. Later in the day, there’s Happy Hour from 3-6 with drink specials, and kids eat dinner free from 5-6. Sometimes there’s live music. No matter what time of day you find yourself needing to sip and snack, FOOW has something on the menu to ease your cravings.

Lunchtime starters range from ½ a dozen Gulf Oysters to Carolina Pimento Cheese Dip served with candied pepper bacon and house made pork rinds. Fried Green Tomatoes are pickled and dredged in cornmeal and served with a Tabasco aioli drizzled on top.

And those are just the appetizers.

Even though it’s officially Fall, it’s still warm outside, so you might want something light and cool to eat. Enter the Heirloom Tomato Salad. It’s like an amped up caprese with house-made mozzarella, balsamic, basil, and parmesan crisps. Add juicy grilled chicken for next level flavor.

The FOOW Burger is for serious contenders only. It is massive. Especially when topped with bacon and avocado. The buttered Brioche bun and garlic aioli are just the details that make a good burger great. You’ll find this same attention to detail all throughout your visit at FOOW.

Other handhelds like the Sweet Tea Chicken Sandwich and tacos with four proteins to choose from make for a lunch everyone can enjoy.

The Dinner Menu at FOOW is available after 5 pm, and they’ve recently switched things up a bit. You get your choice of 1 Protein, 1 Sauce, and 1 Side and it is served with 2 Hushpuppies and Local Vegetables.

Fried Catfish with creamed corn and grits is the clear winner here. As if on cue, The Hummin' Bird dessert with Hummingbird Cake, Sliced Banana, Grilled Pineapple, Roasted Pecans, and a Chocolate Nest remind you of Sundays at grandmomma’s house, you know, if your grandma is Southern. And a good cook. With a modern décor scheme.

Be sure to swing by the FOOW Shoppe for logoed beach gear and T shirts, Swell wine tumblers, and fine ingredients for creating fabulous meals at home.

Also be sure to visit www.FOOW30a.com to see what’s happening throughout the year. The restaurant has signature events featuring cuisine from different parts of the globe, as well as a Mixology series.

On October 12th they’re sampling Rum Around the World and you can learn to make rum-based cocktails from the FOOW bartender. Light bar snacks will be provided. The event is open to the public and it’s only $30 per person, which includes tastings, cocktails, and bar snacks. Reservations are required by calling 850.534.5050 -so get your crew together for a night out!

FOOW is open daily during the season in Watercolor for lunch, happy hour and dinner, currently Tuesday - Sunday. Enjoy great food with a casual view from their second story location. Dine inside or on the porch. Each table is positioned to maximize views of the Gulf. FOOW also has private dining for groups and parties large or small. Visit FOOW on Facebook and at www.foow30a.com for menus, events, and more.
