SoWal Lunchtime: Red Fish Taco in Blue Mountain Beach

August 12, 2019 by Audrey Johnson

Lunchtime at Red Fish Taco is a festive affair!

We like to hop over to the Blue Mountain Beach eatery as often as we can to get our fix of fun and tacos. Seems like too long since our last visit. If you haven't been to the hot spot in Redfish Village (where Trebeache' used to be), they’ve really brightened the place up. Whitewashed walls bounce light around the room and our favorite Justin Gaffrey pieces are still bringing the outside in.

But make no mistake, we came for the tacos!

The menu features a fresh take on taqueria favorites served in an unpretentious atmosphere. (You might even find yourself singing along to Journey.) Salsa, queso, and guac reign supreme for starters, and we love their flavorful chips dusted with a blend of savory spices. The spicy chips are no surprise. Red Fish Taco is owned by the same team as Stinky’s Fish Camp and the Cajun twist on Tex-Mex really shines throughout the menu.

The Grilled Red Fish Tacos are massive and pair well with marinated cabbage, chili lime aioli, and cilantro. Chicken carnitas come in the form of crispy street tacos and you can always get yourself a dang quesadilla.

The Cuban sandwich stacked with fire roasted pork, ham, provolone and pickles is an unsung hero…hands down the best thing on the lunch menu. For plant-based options, several dishes feature the grilled avocado that packs fresh flavor.

Red Fish Taco has cute t shirts in festive colors featuring their adorable fish logo that pays homage to minimalism. Outdoor seating is available on the patio, perfect for if you’re walking across the street from the sandy beach. You can also order take out and pick it up in the Red Fish Taco To Go Bar. Sip on specialty margaritas, cold Tecate' in the can or a Cucumber Cooler while you wait for your order. Pick up tees, hats, house blend spices and sunscreen in this one stop shop.

We found that lunchtime is pretty laid back at Red Fish Taco. Whether you choose to drink margaritas at lunch or not, we won’t judge. But we can’t talk about Red Fish Taco without bragging on their ‘rita list. Don’t get too fancy and underestimate the frozen ones - they are nostalgic and so. dang. perfect. in this heat. The value really kicks up during Happy Hour. Red Fish Taco has daily specials on drinks and eats from 4-6 pm. They also feature live music just about every night if you opt for dinner and drinks instead.

Red Fish Taco is located at Red Fish Village on the corner of Scenic 30A and Hwy 83 in Blue Mountain Beach. They’re open daily for lunch, happy hour and dinner. Follow their Facebook page for menus, music, specials and more. Red Fish Village has ample free parking and taco-loving dogs are welcome outside. Tag your Instagram photos @redfishtaco.
