Jumpin' and Jammin' Fishing in July

I know, it's been awhile since I sat down and did a report but the Gulf has been calm, the fish have been biting and I have been steady runnin' every day. This afternoon we had a bunch of thunderstorms pop up that made me cancel my PM trip so I am trying to catch up some.

We have been limiting out on Red Snappers on the Fridays , Saturdays and Sundays they are open. While most are "regular size" I have had some folks catch a few downright BIG Un's the past couple weeks.

How to be a Fourth of July SoWal Beach Hero

As people make plans to go to the beach for the Independence Day holiday, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is reminding the public to help protect beach-nesting shorebirds and sea turtles by giving them space and keeping personal fireworks off the beach. Please respect shorebird and sea turtle areas that are posted to protect these vulnerable species, but remember not all nests are posted.

Rags to Riches Regatta at Grayton Beach July 1, 2017

The 21st edition of the annual Rags To Riches Regatta returns to Grayton Beach on Saturday, July 1, 2017 in celebration of American Independence Day.

The small catamaran race is a tradition among SoWal sailors, families, friends, and Grayton Beach lovers. Come out to watch the regatta take off from the shores of Grayton Beach, have a cold one from Grayton Beer Company and pick up a tee shirt commemorating the 2017 Regatta. Relax and watch the colorful catamarans on the Gulf as they race to Seagrove Beach and back to Grayton.

South Walton Organizations Launch The Underwater Museum Of Art

The Cultural Arts Alliance of Walton County (CAA) in partnership with the South Walton Artificial Reef Association (SWARA) will join two of SoWal's most beloved attractions - the arts and the Gulf of Mexico - by creating The Underwater Museum of Art (UMA), North America's first underwater permanent sculpture exhibit. The project has support from the National Endowment For The Arts.

The Green Owl in Seagrove Beach is Full of Inspiration

This morning I ventured out to explore The Green Owl in Seagrove Plaza. The South Walton shop is right on Scenic 30A, but tucked away in a small space. I found The Green Owl to be truly unique and overflowing with inspiration from Owner Stephanie Anklier's vision.

“I like simple,” says Stephanie. "Our products are organic, Fair Trade, and contain no harmful ingredients. "

“Whenever two sailboats are on the water at the same time,” says Charlie Thornton, “it’s a race.  The captains may not admit it, but each wants to go faster than the other.”

Some things never change.

Last Fourth of July local sailors gathered for the legendary Rags to Riches Regatta, a Hobie Cat Race with a course between Grayton Beach and Seagrove. Seventeen captains showed up with their crew and 16-foot Hobies to negotiate the famously rowdy Gulf.

Grayton Beach State Park Showcases South Walton's Best

Grayton Beach State Park has showcased the best natural environment South Walton has to offer for nearly 50 years.

The park encompasses 2,200 acres of pristine rolling dunes along the Gulf and Western Lake, and a magnificent coastal forest habitat with unusual scrub oaks and magnolias twisted by winds and time. Western Lake is the centerpiece of the park, one of our rare, freshwater coastal dune lakes.
