Visions of Seaside: Foundations / Evolution / Imagination / Built & Unbuilt Architecture, a new 608-page book by Dhiru A. Thadani, is now available in select stores in Seaside, Florida. The hard-bound, coffee table book explores important pieces of Seaside history, insights and ideas and will be sold exclusively in Seaside until September 3 and then available on Amazon and Random House bookstores.

Surfrider Foundation Kid’s Surf Classic 2013

The Emerald Coast Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation, is stoked to host the 2nd annual Kid’s Surf Classic. It’s a surfing contest just for kids! For many it will be a first-time surfing experience and for some its a chance to show off their skills.

For parents and children alike, it will surely be a great time on the beach. Need a surfboard? We will have a variety of longboards, shortboards, and fishes available for use. Need help catching waves? Have a parent assist you in the lineup, or we’ll provide a surfing expert to help get you into some waves.

Gina opened the salon in March of 2004 after relocating from Atlanta to South Walton. She grew up in the industry, working in her mother’s beauty shop. 

 

Positive News for Walton County Beach Nourishment Project

The Walton County, Florida, Hurricane and Storm Damage Reduction Project (Beach Nourishment Project) reached another milestone Tuesday, July 16 with the signing of the project’s Feasibility Study Report by General Thomas Bostick, Chief of Engineers for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The chief’s favorable report marks the culmination of the Corps of
Engineer’s development and review process for the project, and the study will now be submitted to Congress and the Administration. The next step for the project is Congressional approval for construction authorization.
 

Sacred Heart Hospital Hosts Blood Drive July 25

Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast will host the Oneblood mobile unit on Thursday, July 25 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the main entrance of the hospital, located at 7800 U.S. Highway 98 West in Miramar Beach.

All donors will receive a free t-shirt and a meal ticket to the hospital’s café. Anyone who donates blood two times between now and Sept. 30, 2013 will receive a free steak dinner courtesy of Outback Steakhouse®.

Sandestin Wine Festival Donates Over $50,000 to Local Charities

The Sandestin Wine Festival, one of the top wine festivals in the country, is donating more than $50,000 to local charities and philanthropic causes. The news was announced at a press event at the Village of Baytowne Wharf in Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort.

Village Special Event Manager, Lanier Motes, presented a $33,000 check to Kim Henderson, Executive Director, Fisher House of the Emerald Coast; and a $21,000 check to Sara Becnel, board member of the Sandestin Foundation for Kids.
