In the 1940s and 1950s families that visited SoWal every Summer stayed in quaint cottages - some were simple and practical concrete block homes that stayed cooler on hot days and defied the elements. Some of the getaways were wooden shotgun shacks moved down to the beach from Old Point Washington where they had housed workers when lumber was booming.
Construction is booming in Alys Beach and the first homes were built as carefully and solidly as the current ones.
In this edition of SoWal Style we take a look inside one of the first homes built in Alys Beach along the central pedestrian path, bordering the firepit park. It's a wonderful four bedroom, three-and-a-half bath home thoughtfully designed courtyard home with an outdoor living space featuring a trickling water fountain and tropical foliage creating a private retreat.
